Our nutrition calculation method
Understand the equations, assumptions, and safety limits behind DietMap calorie and macro estimates.
Energy estimate
DietMap uses the Mifflin–St Jeor equation to estimate basal metabolic rate (BMR), then multiplies BMR by an activity factor to estimate total daily energy expenditure (TDEE). A moderate goal adjustment is applied for weight change goals.
Macronutrients and hydration
Protein is set with reference to body weight and the selected goal. Remaining energy is distributed between carbohydrates and fats within practical ranges. Hydration is estimated from body weight and activity.
Why results remain estimates
Equations describe population averages. Metabolism, body composition, sleep, medication, health conditions and tracking accuracy can change real needs. Monitor progress over several weeks and adjust with professional guidance when needed.
